Man, believed to be armed, barricaded inside home
BATON ROUGE- Streets were closed late Tuesday in the Westminster neighborhood after a man barricaded himself in his house and shot his vehicle in the driveway.
Sheriff's deputies said the man got upset when his mother, who was inside the house with him, took away his keys after he became intoxicated. His disgruntled attitude turned violent and help was called when the mom said he fired a shot and she locked herself in a room.
The ordeal began around 8:00 p.m. and continued into the night on Downing Drive.
Eventually, the man's elderly mother was able to get out and deputies were trying to coax the man out.
Some neighbors gathered, watching the event unfold.
As of this post, the man was still inside the house. People in the area are not in danger deputies said.
The man was described as "down on his luck."
