Man arrested on rape charge
ZACHARY - Sheriff's deputies accused a Zachary man of raping a family member Wednesday.
Detectives booked Roman Vandiver, 30, into the parish jail on suspicion of simple forcible rape.
Investigators said the victim went to an emergency room on Jan. 29 and told hospital staff she'd been raped. Detectives said she told them it had happened the night before at her home.
According to arrest documents, the victim told detectives Vandiver had been drinking at her apartment that night and left. She went to bed, then said she woke up to find Vandiver had returned was standing over her. She told detectives she'd felt threatened he was going to hurt her, and complied when Vandiver started make sexual contact with her. She said she told him to stop, but Vandiver refused and continued to rape her.
Detectives submitted evidence from the rape kit to the LSP Crime Lab, and said when they tried to talk to Vandiver he invoked his right to an attorney.
