NEW ROADS - In New Roads a man is charged with attempted murder and another is recovering after a double shooting.

23-year-old Tyson Thornton was arrested after checking out of an area hospital. He was injured during the shooting on Rita Street Mother's Day night.

Police say two Thornton and another man opened fire after re-igniting an argument the day before. Both were hit and sent to the hospital.

According to police this is the third shooting in New Roads this year, and still no murders.

Pointe Coupee Parish Police Juror, Cornell Dukes, says city and officials are working to keep it that way.

Dukes says, "We're not going to allow that to happen here. What we're doing right now is working very hard... to bring to bring economic development to our area... to put these guys to work and keep them into schools so they can take advantage of opportunities that we are trying to create."

The other man who was shot is still in the hospital recovering. No word on whether he will be arrested when released.
