Man arrested in connection with Sunday morning car shootings
A man who police said shot at three cars in the early morning hours this past Sunday was arrested tonight.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies said they believe 26-year-old Jason Robert Wyrick came across the first victims, a man and woman, while driving on Acadian Thruway near Perkins Road around 3 a.m. Police said Wyrick passed them, made an obscene gesture then waved a weapon and fired at their vehicle while on Jefferson Highway near Drusilla Lane and Interstate 12. Their vehicle wasn’t hit.
Authorities said Wyrick fired at the second vehicle, driven by a woman, near Jefferson Highway and Essen Lane and hit the car once.
Police said Wyrick fired at a third vehicle and hit it multiple times. That happened at Airline Highway near Old Jefferson Highway.
Police said they gathered information leading them to Wyrick and got a search warrant for his house. They found his car and weapon there and sent them to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Wyrick is charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property. He is in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
