Man arrested for vehicle burglaries at boat launch
BAYOU L'OURSE - Deputies in Assumption Parish arrested a man they say is behind a rash of vehicle burglaries at the Bayou Cheramie Boat Launch.
Deputies say the victims would launch their b oats and park their trucks nearby, and while they were gone Ulysess Payne, 32, would break into the vehicles. The items stolen ranged from audio equipment to tools and other items.
Payne was identified as a person of interest after detectives put surveillance cameras in the area.
Deputies say Payne denied any involvement in the burglaries, however with the overwhelming amount of evidence detectives charged him with two counts of simple burglary.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Payne was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and his bond was set at $20,000.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack would like to reiterate to the public the importance of writing down all serial numbers of firearms and electronics, whether they be stored in your home or vehicle, for they are an invaluable tool in locating stolen property.
