Man arrested for running over 4-year-old
NAPOLEONVILLE - State police arrested a man they said was speeding when he ran over a 4-year-old riding his bike in Napoleonville Sunday.
Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack says a patrol vehicle tried to catch up with a speeding Chevy Tahoe on Highway 1. The Tahoe continued speeding into a residential area and ran over the young boy.
The child was airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital and is in stable condition.
Investigators said four people fled the vehicle and three were apprehended, including the driver, Larry Wiggins.
State Police charged Wiggins with felony hit and run, DWI, negligent vehicular injury and driving without a license. The Assumption Parish Sheriff Patrol Sergeant booked Wiggins with aggravated flight from an officer, speeding, and resisting an officer.
