Alexandria police arrested a man they say was running a hiring scam when he was meeting with potential "employees" at a local motel.
Police say about 20 men were there to meet with Dereius Davis, who said he could hire them for work at the Diamond B Construction company.
When one of his victims contacted the company to talk about particulars of the job, police say company officials called authorities to investigate.
Police say Davis was charging $25 to $40 for background checks on the potential employees.
Officers booked Davis with theft of more than $500 and unauthorized use of an access card theft of more than $500.
