Man arrested for killing daughter's boyfriend
BATON ROUGE- Deputies arrested a 57-year-old man accused of shooting his daughter's boyfriend to death. The shooting happened in the 11000 block of Blackwater Road after 7 p.m. Monday.
Wayne Landry is accused of shooting and killing 23-year-old Scott Shipp, after Shipp refused to leave his property.
According to investigators, Landry and Shipp got into an argument early Monday. When Landry's daughter came home with Shipp, Landry called the Sheriff's Office to get him off the property. When deputies showed up, they say Shipp was already gone.
Less than two hours later, deputies were called out to Landry's home a second time. When they got there, deputies say Scott was dead, outside the home, and Landry was standing in the doorway.
Long-time neighbor Victor Zumo told News 2, he believes Landry was trying to protect his family.
"He was in more like self-defense, and taking care of his people," Zumo said. "Wayne, he's a wonderful guy, he's a real good neighbor."
No one else was injured in the shooting and deputies say Shipp was unarmed. Landry was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for second-degree murder.
Shipp graduated from Zachary High School and was living in Central. His funeral arrangements have not been set.
