AMELIA - An area man is facing numerous charges after he kicked his pregnant wife in the stomach and led police on a high-speed car chase Thursday.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint early Thursday morning concerning a fight involving several men in Amelia.

At the scene, deputies determined that Rodolfo Chan had kicked his pregnant wife in the stomach and left the scene. The victim was then treated at a local hospital.

Authorities eventually found Chan driving in the area and attempted to stop him. Chan did not stop and led police on a high-speed chase that ended with him crashing his car into a gate and fleeing on foot.

Deputies from St. Mary Parish helped in the pursuit of Chan.

Authorities say Chan entered a swamp and deputies pursued him. Chan was then tased but he continued to flee. A K-9 was finally able to subdue Chan, however Chan still attempted to disarm a deputy during the struggle.

Chan was arrested and transported to the Assumption Community Hospital for lacerations before being released to authorities.

Chan was charged with domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, aggravated flight from an officer, disarming of a Peace Officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, and several traffic violations.
