BATON ROUGE - Police said 30-year-old Matthew Johnson Jr. was arrested after allegedly forcing a man to leave the L'Auberge casino with him to buy drugs and robbing him.

According to The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 5, the victim was at the L'Auberge casino gambling for several hours. The victim told police he was in town for the LSU vs. Alabama game.

During his time gambling, he told police he "went up" approximately $700 to $800, and then cashed out and walked to his room at the casino, police said.

While walking to his room, the victim told police he was approached by an unknown male suspect while near the elevators. The victim said that the man seemed nice and engaged in a casual conversation, according to police.

At some point the victim and suspect entered into an elevator, police said. It was in the elevator that the suspect reportedly told the victim "I have a gun, do what I say," according to police. The victim told police that he feared for his life and followed the suspects commands.

Both the victim and the suspect then exited the elevator on the top of a parking garage, according to police. They walked to a white crossover style SUV and the suspect instructed the victim to get into the front passenger seat, police said.

The suspect then got into the driver's seat of the vehicle and drove off the property of the Casino, police said. The victim told officials that the suspect talked about buying cocaine and marijuana multiple times, and instructed the victim to give him $200 for drugs, according to police.

Officials said the victim stated that the suspect then bought illegal narcotics at an abandoned home with his money. They then drove around the city for a lengthy period of time, police said.

According to police, after driving around the suspect suddenly stopped in the middle of the road and commanded the victim to give him his personal belongings and get out. The victim pleaded with the suspect to to just let him go, police said. It was then that the suspected brandished a firearm mostly covered by a towel, according to police. The victim said he complied with his demands and handed over his possession, according to police.

After being helped by a good Samaritan, he contacted EBRSO about the incident, police said.

After getting a description of the suspect from the victim and reviewing surveillance footage from the casino, police were able to obtain photos of the suspect and his vehicle that were then distributed to local media outlets.

EBRSO was later informed by an anonymous source on the possible identity of the suspect.

A warrant was then put out for Johnson's arrest. He was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
