NEW ORLEANS - A man receiving treatment at a New Orleans psychiatric hospital has been arrested on a charge he threatened to kill Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and former President George W. Bush.

The Secret Service arrested William Thomas Driscoll on Wednesday.

He allegedly told investigators earlier this month that he planned to buy a gun in Alabama and kill Bush and Romney after leaving the Seaside Behavioral Center in New Orleans.

A court filing says Driscoll checked himself into the center on Feb. 28.

The Secret Service says Driscoll was arrested in Washington twice during the 1980s and charged with making threats against the president.

Driscoll also allegedly has threatened to kill or harm presidents Ronald Regan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
