BATON ROUGE – Police arrested a man Thursday after they say he waited two hours to bring his three-year-old daughter to the hospital after she was accidentally shot in the face.

Baton Rouge Police arrested 25-year-old Hollis Clark on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, second-degree cruelty to juveniles and obstruction of justice.

On May 14, BRPD received a complaint from the Baton Rouge General hospital about a three-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

Officers learned that the shooting took place in the 4300 block of Denham Street inside an apartment where the victim, mother, brother and father lives. Officers also learned that the three-year-old victim was shot in the face by her six-year-old brother who found a gun laying on the floor in their mother’s room.

Witnesses told officers that immediately after the shooting, Clark came into the home exclaiming that he was going to jail.

Clark, according to witnesses, took the gun and placed it in the closet. Clark then waited two hours to bring his three-year-old daughter to the seek medical attention because he did not want to go to jail. Clark also did not call police or EMS, according to BRPD.

Detectives then contacted the six-year-old brother and told detectives that he found the gun in Clark’s room in the floor behind the door. The three-year-old victim also confirmed this with detectives.

A search warrant with the mother’s written consent was executed in the apartment where it was discovered that the gun had been moved from the closet to an unknown location.

A second witness told detectives that they observed Clark wrap the gun in a cloth and put it inside his work boots. Clark then put the boots in his car and left the scene.

Clark was located and arrested on the above charges. According to BRPD, he was also convicted of simple burglary in May 2014 and received four years probation.
