Man arrested after SWAT team standoff in Pierre Part
PIERRE PART - A man is in jail after a standoff with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office SWAT team.
David Hebert, 29, was arrested on charges of illegal use of weapons and resisting an officer.
Assumption deputies responded to a residence on Shell Beach Road in Pierre Part around 6 p.m. Tuesday night after a report of two shots being fired at the home.
Deputies say Hebert lived there with his girlfriend, infant child and mother.
The first officers on the scene were able to observe people inside the home through a bedroom window, but were unable to get any response from anyone inside.
The SWAT team was then called in. During attempts to approach the residence, deputies say a man later identified as David Hebert continued to shout at team members. After negotiations, access was gained to the home and everyone inside was determined to be okay.
Deputies say Hebert was arrested after he still refused to let his girlfriend or child leave. They say Hebert resisted arrest and had to be physically placed in custody.
Hebert was booked into the Ascension Parish detention center. The investigation is ongoing.
