Man arrested after "gift from God"
KENNER - Police in Kenner say a man has been arrested after failing to return most of the $7,000 erroneously deposited into his bank account.
Police said 36-year-old William Lopez claimed he thought the money was a "gift from God."
Kenner Police Sgt. Brian McGregor says the mix-up occurred Dec. 3 when Lopez's wife deposited a check for $700 into his account at a Capital One Bank. Someone at the bank mistakenly entered the deposited amount as $7,000.
Bank officials discovered the mistake within two hours and tried to contact Lopez. But police allege that Lopez had discovered the error about and withdrawn $6,000 from the account. He was arrested Monday and booked with theft.
