BATON ROUGE – The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a man after he beat his bedridden brother for gas money.

BRPD responded to the 3700 block of Eaton Street in reference to an assault on Monday around 2:45 p.m. The victim told police that he got into an argument with his brother, 26-year-old Edward Maurice Emery. Emery became irate and started hitting his brother in the face.

The victim’s roommate attempted to intervene, but Emery began hitting him too. When Emery was leaving, the victim’s girlfriend was entering the home and asked Emery what was going on.

While both were standing outside, Emery hit her in the face with a mailbox.

After Emery was arrested, he told police that his brother asked him to run errands in return for gas money. Emery stated that when he returned to his brother’s home, the two began to argue over the money that was promised.

Emery claimed that while he was trying to leave, his brother had a bat and tried to hit him while pushing him out of the home and then the fight ensued.

Emery was transported to the First District Precinct and then booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for simple battery, battery of the infirm and aggravated battery charges.
