ANGOLA - Bond could be set Monday for a man who allegedly ambushed the Angola State Penitentiary over the weekend.
Prison officials say guards opened fire on the vehicle with two children inside when it crashed through the main entrance gates Sunday afternoon.
Correctional officers reportedly saw a suspicious vehicle, driven Floyd Tillman, approaching and backing up multiple times.
The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office said the children's mother reported them missing along with her husband Saturday to Houma Police. Investigators said Tillman's wife told them he was a paranoid schizophrenic and was off his medication.
Angola Assistant Warden Cathy Fontenot says guards fired shots in attempt to stop the vehicle. Neither Tillman nor the children were injured.
According to investigators, Tillman's wife told them he had no connection to Angola.
Tillman faces a list of charges, including cruelty to juveniles, trespassing, and criminal damage to property.
