Man admits killing ex-fiancee
A Baton Rouge man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and attempted second-degree murder in the shooting death of his ex-fiancee and wounding one of her neighbors in 2008.
Prosecutors say 39-year-old Frederick Dominique Reed Jr. was accused of killing 31-year-old Mia Reid less than two weeks after she sought a restraining order against him.
Reed's trial on second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder charges began last week and was scheduled to resume Tuesday when Reed entered his guilty pleas.
Reed was sentenced to the maximum 40 years on the manslaughter charge and 20 years on the
attempted murder charge and ordered the terms to run consecutively.
