Man accused of shooting pregnant ex-girlfriend
GONZALES - Deputies arrested a Baton Rouge man after they said he tried to kill his pregnant ex-girlfriend in Ascension Parish this morning.
Investigators arrested Cowan Collins, 27, on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted feticide, and illegal use of a weapon in the shooting of Kenyia Houston, 25, of Gonzales.
Deputies said the shooting happened around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday outside Houston's home. They said she was getting into her vehicle when Collins came up to her and started shooting, hitting her in the arm and chest. Houston fled and wrecked her car at the intersection of Highway 621 and Orleans Drive.
Investigators said she was taken to a local hospital where doctors operated on her and delivered her child. They said both Houston and her baby are in stable condition.
Deputies booked Collins into the Ascension Parish jail, and said his bond was set at $550,000.
