Man accused of shooting at sheriff's deputy
BATON ROUGE - An Iberville Parish man is in jail, accused of trying to kill an East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputy.
Stephen Gordon, 23, was reported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office last night when he was seen on Chippendale Drive, off of Tiger Bend Road, holding a hand gun.
A K-9 deputy caught up with Gordon a few blocks away on Jones Creek Road. According to the affidavit the K-9 deputy tried to stop Gordon, who then ran behind a business.
Gordon is accused of firing several shots when the deputy and his dog gave chase. No one was hit.
Gordon escaped briefly, but was caught later hiding in the backyard of a residence on Altus Drive. He denied shooting the the deputy or having a gun.
Gordon is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder of Police Officer and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Gordon had previously been convicted on five counts of burglary in West Baton Rouge Parish.
