BATON ROUGE – Deputies arrested a Baton Rouge man Thursday after they say he caused an accident on Joor Road, pointed a firearm at the other driver and then fled the scene.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputies charged 59-year-old Michael Mannino with aggravated assault with a firearm, reckless operation, following too close and hit and run.

According to court documents, a victim told deputies that he was driving on Joor Road Wednesday morning when Mannino passed him in the median. The victim said Mannino then slammed on the brakes, which caused the victim to crash into his truck.

After the two men moved to the side of the road, the victim said he approached the other truck and saw Mannino pointing a camouflage semiautomatic handgun at him.

The victim said Mannino told him to get back into his truck. When he told Mannino that he knew who he was, Mannino fled the scene.

Deputies arrested Mannino Thursday afternoon at the Central Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. At the location, deputies observed a camouflage painted handgun on the floorboard of Mannino’s vehicle. Deputies later executed a search warrant and seized a Taurus 24/7 handgun.

Mannino was transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
