Man accused of murder, cruelty to son
BATON ROUGE - Police accused a Baton Rouge man of murder and neglect Monday in the death of his six-month-old son.
Sgt. Mary Ann Godawa with Baton Rouge Police said officers arrested Curtis King, 23, in connection with the death of his son Aiden King on Nov. 6.
Investigators said on Oct. 29 King had left his son unattended while he prepared marijuana for sale, then later went to sleep next to the child. Police said King told them when he woke up he found his son unresponsive, and called for help.
Godawa said the child was taken to the hospital and put on life support until Nov. 6, when he was declared dead.
She said police had previously investigated King in May when he put his son in hot bath water so hot it burned most of his body with second- and third-degree burns. The child was taken to a children's burn unit in Texas, where he was also treated for other injuries doctors discovered.
Godaway said BRPD detectives went to Galveston to look into the matter, but did not arrest King at that time. She said the burn unit later released King to the custody of his parents, but didn't let BRPD detectives know the child was back home.
Police booked King into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.
