Man accused of killing unborn child blames drugs
WALKER - Jeffrey Reynolds, the man accused of stabbing his wife and cutting their unborn child from its womb, appeared in court today. He blames synthetic marijuana for ruining his life.
A talkative Reynolds made the comments to reporters outside the Livingston Parish Courthouse this afternoon.
""I love my wife and son with all my heart and I hope the state will make new laws, enforce laws against synthetic drugs," Reynolds said. "It has ruined my family."
Reynolds is charged with feticide and attempted murder after the Oct. 23, 2012 incident. Investigators say his wife, Paula, was 7 1/2 months pregnant.
Julie Collins, a neighbor of Reynolds says she never suspected any harm from the man.
"I saw no sign of abuse, I saw no sign of drug abuse or any kind," said Collins.
Collins calls her relationship with the family "collegial," and remains in contact with Paula, who is in recovery after 21 surgeries.
A toxicology report on Reynolds has not been released.
Today, attorneys agreed to schedule another hearing Feb. 4, where prosecutors will ask Reynolds' bond be revoked. He's currently in jail with a $500,000 bond.
