Man accused of attacking, beating grandmother
BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a Baton Rouge man they accused of beating and pouring hot water on his 87-year-old grandmother this week.
Police arrested Ernest Girtley, 35, in suspicion of cruelty to the infirm and aggravated second-degree battery.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said Girtley attacked his grandmother Tuesday night at her North 49th St. home. He said Girtley dragged her out of her bed and through the house, punching her in the face while telling her he was going to kill her. He said the woman hit Girtley in the groin with a walking cane, at which point he threw a pot of water he had been heating on her.
McKneely said the woman was treated for a facial injury, but the water was not hot enough to burn her.
He said they haven't determined why Girtley attacked her.
