BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a man after they said he scammed at least three elderly victims in Baton Rouge with phony roof repairs.

Lt. Don Kelly said officers arrested Brandon Ferguson, 24, of Baker Wednesday night in suspicion of theft and stealing from the elderly.

Kelly said Ferguson and accomplices contacted several elderly victims over the past month, telling them they needed roof repairs or a protective coating on their roof. They would quote the victims a low price, according to investigators, then once the "work" was completed would intimidate them into paying significantly more. Police said the work was usually just spray-painting the roof.

Police said Ferguson is also accused of stealing jewelry from inside one victim's home.

Kelly said all the cases were reported in the Red Oaks and Broadmoor areas, but it's likely there are other victims who haven't come forward yet in the Baton Rouge area or surrounding parishes. He asked anyone who may have been a victim in the scam to contact the BRPD Financial Crimes Division at (225) 389-3871.
