Major crimes increased in 2009
The number of major crimes reported by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office in 2009 increased by 2.12 percent when compared to 2008, the Sheriff's Office announced Thursday.
There were 188 more incidents involving major crime, according to the figures submitted to the FBI Uniform Reporting program.
Violent crimes against persons, which includes murder, rape, robbery and assault, decreased by almost 11 percent. Crimes against property, which includes burglary, larceny, arson and motor vehicle theft, increased by 3.36 percent.
Major crimes reported to the FBI in 2008 were a 10.46 percent decrease when compared to 2007.
