The historic Magnolia Mound Plantation is getting ready to partially close for several months for repairs and upgrades to the 219-year-old home's foundation, floor, roof and air conditioning system.
The main house will close next week so museum volunteers can pack up the smaller, more fragile parts of the collection and stow them at the Louisiana State Archives.
The French-Creole planter's home will reopen for the month of June, but will close again for the next three to six months. BREC, which runs the museum, has budgeted $400,000 for the repairs and upgrades. Architect Jerry Campbell is overseeing the work.
