Lundi Gras festivities usher in 2015 Mardi Gras
NEW ORLEANS - Live music overtakes the banks of the Mississippi River as revelers take in the last big party night before Mardi Gras.
Monday, known in New Orleans as Lundi Gras, includes the traditional ceremonial meeting between the king and queen of the Krewe of Zulu and Rex, the King of Carnival, and his queen.
Both krewes parade Tuesday, but revelers will be in place Monday night for the star-studded Orpheus parade, whose celebrity riders this year include country music star Dierks Bentley, comedian Ron White and the cast of "NCIS: New Orleans."
Orpheus is one of the major Carnival clubs that holds a formal ball after the parade. As the ball ends in the wee hours of the morning, Mardi Gras' first parade, Zulu, is scheduled to roll at 8 a.m.
