BATON ROUGE - Secretary of State Jay Dardenne is releasing details about how his transition to Lt. Governor will be handled.
Dardenne will take over his office Nov. 22. That's about 10 days later than he's required to wait. By doing that, Dardenne said taxpayers will save about $6 million because a special election will not be needed to fill his old job between now and next fall.
Assistant Secretary of State Tom Schedler will assume Dardenne's old job. Dardenne said he is confident his friend and employee will do a good job. Dardenne said he plans on evaluating all of the departments in the Lt. Governor's Office in order to restructure. He said fewer employees may be needed once that happens.
