BATON ROUGE – LSU junior running back Leonard Fournette has been named as one of the 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award.

Fournette is one of seven juniors to be named a semifinalist for the award which goes to the nation's top running back. Fournette is also a semifinalists for the Maxwell Award.

Fournette was also a finalist for the award in 2015 after his record-breaking sophomore year and goes into this year's season with 803 yards on 117 attempts.

Even with missing three games due to injury, Fournette has rushed for 100 or more yards in all but two games this season. Against Ole Miss, he ran for an LSU single-game record 284 yards and three touchdowns in the win. The yards are the fifth-most for any player in a game nationally this season.

The three times Fournette scored on the road against Arkansas, he became the fourth LSU player in program history to do so.

With 210 more yards, Fournette will become the fourth LSU rusher in history to reach 4,000 career yards, while also becoming the second player to have three 1,000-yard rushing seasons in a career.

Members of the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast their votes after this week's games. Three finalists for the award will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 22. A second vote will be cast to select the 2016 award recipient. The recipient will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 8 on ESPN.
