Louisiana State University at Alexandria is raising its tuition 10 percent beginning this fall.
LSUA Chancellor Dave Manuel outlined the university's plans to handle a potential 23 percent -- or about $2.6 million -- slash to its 2011-12 budget.
The potential budget cut reflects the dire projections of a $133 million shortfall in the LSU System.
While the tuition increase will hurt local students in already tough economic times, Manuel says LSUA has offered one of lowest tuition rates among its peer institutions.
The increase amounts to $134.40 per semester and is expected to raise $680,000.
