LSU readies for Coastal Carolina in Saturday Super Regional
BATON ROUGE - After the Tigers managed to rallypossum their way past the Rice Owls to secure their berth in the NCAA Super Regional, they set their sights on their next opponent in the form of Coastal Carolina.
LSU is scheduled to meet Coastal Carolina in the Super Regionals on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.
Coastal Carolina (47-16) advanced to the next round of play via a thrilling victory 7-5 over North Carolina State after they banged in four runs in the top of the ninth. It’ll be the Chanticleers third NCAA Super Regional appearance with their last Super Regional appearance coming back in 2010.
For those curious, the Chanticleers derive their mascot from the proud, witty rooster made famous in "The Nun's Priest's Tale" of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, according to the school's Wikipedia page.
Due to the rainy conditions both teams were beset with over the weekend, LSU and Coastal Carolina will play a day later than most Super Regional teams. The upswing is that the Tigers will have an extra day to recover from their 5-2 win over Rice on Tuesday night. The Chanticleers were forced to eke out their Regional win with a delayed start and a break in the fifth inning due to wet weather.
Inclement weather is not expected to be a factor for Saturday’s game at The Box with the News 2 Weather Team expecting conditions to be similar to Tuesday with only a possible pop-up shower in the likely forecast.
