The LSU Tiger Marching Band director has announced her resignation today from the university.

Dr. Linda Moorhouse, who is also the Associate Director of Bands and Assistant Professor within the LSU College of Music and Dramatic Arts, is taking a position at the University of Illinois as Visiting Associate Professor of Music.

“We are both surprised and sorry to lose Linda Moorhouse to the University of Illinois,” said LSU Dean of the College of Music & Dramatic Arts Laurence Kaptain. “We actually made her a better offer to stay, but she is choosing a different direction in her career, and we respect that. The University of Illinois’ School of Music is extremely well supported, and this is a new challenge that she wants to take on. We wish her well and thank her for her years of service at LSU.”

Long-time Tiger Band assistant Roy King and returning member of Tiger Band staff will direct the Tiger Band during the 2010-2011 season.

“Roy King has been on the band staff for many years, and I can assure tiger fans everywhere that the quality of Tiger Band will remain intact, and all the traditions will continue. Many staff as returning and the band will be better than ever,” Kaptain said.

Moorhouse received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Florida, a Master of Music Education degree from LSU and a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in instrumental conducting from the University of Washington. She was appointed to the LSU music faculty in 1985.

“Dr. Moorhouse leaves behind an indelible mark on a program about which she cares deeply,” Interim Director of the School of Music Jane Cassidy said. “We are indebted to the vision and dedication to LSU she lived every minute of the past 25 years. We wish her the best in her new position.”
