LSU takes on Jackson State in NCAA Regional play
BATON ROUGE - The No. 4 LSU Fighting Tigers open NCAA Regional play today against Jackson STate with the home field advantage, but minus one of their starting pitchers.
Head Coach Paul Manieri said Thursday sophomore pitcher Cody Glenn was suspended four games for violating team rules. He said Glenn's return to the active roster could be re-evaluated if LSU makes it to the next round of the tournament.
The Tigers (52-9) face off against Jackson State (34-20) after earning a record-setting 48 regular-season wins. The Tigers are also ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball, USA Today, Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. LSU is No. 2 in this week's Baseball America rankings.
Coach Paul Manieri said his team is ready for the high expectations of the NCAA tournament.
"I can tell you this, the pressure I put on myself and our team hasn't changed since the first day I started coaching. We will win within the rules and do it the right way with good sportsmanship and respecting our opponents," he said.
First pitch is at 2 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium. Sports 2 will have live pre-game coverage starting at noon. The game will not be televised, but can be seen online through ESPN3.com and its associated platforms.
