LSU students were warned against scalping their tickets to Saturday's football game against top-ranked Florida.
University officials said selling the tickets for above face value violates both state law and LSU's code of conduct.
The crime carries up to 90 days in jail and a fine of $500.
Each year, LSU sells home football tickets to about 14,000 students at $12 a ticket.
