LSU student studying in Japan is o.k.
UPDATE 5:14 p.m. - The LSU student studying abroad in Japan is confirmed safe. LSU has also contacted a student studying in Hawaii, who is confirmed safe as well.
BATON ROUGE - Officials at LSU Spokesperson Kristine Calongne said only one student was studying in Japan as part of the school's Academic Programs Abroad, and they have been in contact with the student.
Calongne also said seven international students from Japan are enrolled at LSU this spring. Only one was in Japan at the time, and was not believe to be near where the earthquake and tsunami hit.
The six other students are believed to be in the U.S. Calongne said they have made contact with three of them, and are trying to confirm the other three are safe in Baton Rouge as well.
Calongne said LSU Chancellor Mike Martin will be reaching out to each of these students individually to offer the condolences and support of the LSU community.
