LSU, South Carolina, still eying titles
BATON ROUGE - Defensive end Sam Montgomery says LSU has regained a certain focus, intensity and chemistry that had been lacking in recent weeks.
The Tigers' 23-21 triumph Saturday night over a previously undefeated South Carolina team that came in ranked No. 3 vaulted LSU back up the rankings from ninth to sixth.
Montgomery says a loss at Florida a week earlier "woke up" the Tigers and made them tougher, closer and more intense.
South Carolina, meanwhile, has fallen to No. 9 but remains in position to bounce back and win the Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks are disappointed they were beaten at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball by LSU, something they'll need to address before playing at unbeaten No. 3 Florida next weekend.
