LSU's Moncrief gets SEC freshman nod
BATON ROUGE - The Southeastern Conference named LSU's Raigyne Moncrief as their Freshman of the Week after she helped lead LSU to the Barclays Invitational championship this weekend.
Moncrief, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., combined for 40 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals in wins over Rutgers and Michigan in Brooklyn. She is averaging a team-best 13.4 points per game this season, second among all SEC freshmen.
Moncrief also broke the LSU freshmen single-game record for free throws with 15 against Rutgers. She was named the Barclays Invitational Most Outstanding Player after averaging a tournament-best 20.0 points per game.
The Lady Tigers (6-1) are back in Baton Rouge Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. to take on Indiana State at the Maravich Center.
