LSU professor killed after being struck by pickup truck
BATON ROUGE- Police say a Louisiana State University professor has died after being struck by a pickup truck in East Feliciana Parish as she walked with a broken bicycle.
63-year-old Elisabeth Oliver was walking in the southbound lane of Louisiana Highway 952 about noon Sunday after the bicycle she had been riding had mechanical problems.
A pickup truck driven by a 79-year-old man came out of a right-hand curve and struck Oliver. She was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
State Police do not suspect impairment was a factor in the crash.
Authorities say the driver showed no detectable signs of alcohol when given a chemical breath test. The crash is under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
