LSU opens season tonight at Alex Box Stadium
BATON ROUGE - The LSU Tigers will begin their 2014 campaign Friday night at Alex Box Stadium in front of a capacity crowd.
Early reports are that seats are sold out at The Box for LSU's first game against the University of New Orleans at 7pm.
"Obviously this weekend means a lot to me for a lot of reasons," head coach Paul Mainieri told the media Thursday. "Of course it's the start of the season, you get to see how hard your staff and players have worked, and we get 10 to 11-thousand fans back in the stands."
Mainieri also gets to coach against his former coach and mentor Ron Meastri.
"The return of Ron Maestri [after retiring initially 28 years ago] to the dugout," Mainieri continued. "I just can't, in a few words, explain how much that man has meant to me and my life. He's the greatest man I've ever known, outside of my own father."
Maestri will lead his Privateers team against the Tigers Friday and Saturday(at Zephyr Field in Metairie).
