LSU named No. 1 team in college baseball
BATON ROUGE - LSU is now the top team in college baseball.
Collegiate Baseball's latest poll have the Tigers ranked No. 1, after winning 12 straight games, including 9 consecutive SEC contests.
LSU (30-2, 11-1 SEC) is tied with Vanderbilt for the overall conference lead, and has a three-game advantage over Alabama and Arkansas in the SEC Western Division standings.
"The No. 1 ranking is wonderful recognition for the accomplishments of our program this year," Head Coach Paul Mainieri said, "but it brings a lot of responsibility. We're not going to ask our players to change anything; we want them to continue to play with passion and have fun. It's a great honor, but our goal is to be No. 1 at the end of the year."
The Tigers and No. 10 Arkansas meet this weekend in a three-game series in Fayetteville.
LSU's next game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, when the Tigers face Southern University in the annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Foundation Classic at Zephyr Field in Metairie.
