LSU Lady Tigers advance to Sweet 16 with 71-66 win over Penn State
A shorthanded LSU Lady Tiger basketball team fought long odds, a short bench and a tough opponent on Tuesday night at the Maravich Center, but still managed to find a way to win.
Led by senior guard Adrienne Webb with a career high 29 points, the LSU Lady Tigers beat Penn State 71-66 to advance to their first Sweet 16 since 2008.
The Tigers were forced to play with only seven players dressed out after guard Jeanne Kinney was ruled out after suffering a head injury in the final minutes of their first round game against Green Bay.
LSU seniors led the way as guard Bianca Lutley added 18 points to join Webb as the only Lady Tigers in double digit scoring.
LSU will now travel to the Spokane Regional to face two seed California. The Tigers are the fourth six seed to qualify for the Sweet 16. Also in the Spokane Regional are top seeded Standford and fourth seeded Georgia.
