LSU hosting Supers after defeating UNC 2-0
BATON ROUGE - The LSU Tiger baseball team scored two runs on UNC Wilmington in the second inning and used remarkable defense to make that score stand up through nine innings as they advance to Super Regional play.
LSU firstbaseman Chris Chinea continued to swing a hot bat for the Tigers, starting the scoring for the Tigers with an RBI double down the left field line that plated Andrew Stevenson. One batter later, Jake Fraley singled in Stevenson for the only other run of the game.
Alex Bregman and Stevenson both made remarkable defensive plays to keep the Seahawks off of the scoreboard, including a spectacular diving catch deep in center field by Stevenson who then turned a double play.
Jared Poche pitched nine scoreless innings to shutout UNCW for the second straight game.
The Tigers will host Super Regional play at the Box this coming weekend against the winner of Rice/ULL at the Houston Regional. Tickets are available now through 5 p.m. Tuesday to LSU baseball season ticket holders. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the general public later this week, and will also be available by phone at (225) 578-2184 or in person at the LSU Athletic Ticket Office on the first floor of the Athletic Administration Building.
