BATON ROUGE – The sixth-ranked LSU gymnastics team roared to a season high score to win a Top-10 showdown in convincing fashion over No. 8 Arkansas, 197.425-196.150, Friday night in the Maravich Center.

In front of 7,779 fans, LSU improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 against Southeastern Conference competition.

Arkansas fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 against league competition.

LSU sophomore Myia Hambrick had a career night as she posted personal-best scores of 9.925 on bars, 9.925 on beam, 9.90 on floor and 39.625 in the all-around. Hambrick won at least a share of all five individual titles as well.

Sydney Ewing, Ashleigh Gnat and Randii Wyrick tied Hambrick for the vault title with 9.875s. Sarah Finnegan tied Hambrick for the beam title with a 9.925, and Gnat and Wyrick tied Hambrick for the floor title with 9.90s.

“Our team is developing character as we move forward and approach the midpoint of our season,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “We had great performances tonight, and we developed and used momentum to come away with a solid meet.”

LSU opened the meet with a 49.300 on vault, highlighted by 9.875s from Ewing, Wyrick, Hambrick and Gnat. The Tigers also counted a 9.80 from Erin Macadaeg in the leadoff spot.

After one rotation LSU led Arkansas, 49.300-49.175, and the Tigers maintained the lead through two rotations.

LSU posted a 49.275 on bars, led by a career-high 9.925 from Hambrick. In the anchor spot, Shae Zamardi added a 9.875, and the Tigers also counted a 9.85 from Jessica Savona, a 9.825 from Lexie Priessman and a 9.80 from Gnat.

Halfway through the meet, LSU held a 98.575-98.200 lead over the Razorbacks.

The Tigers increased the lead in the third rotation with a strong performance on beam to finish with a 49.450. Hambrick and Finnegan led the way as each posted a career-best 9.925. Michelle Gauthier also shattered her career high with a 9.875. From the leadoff spot, Macadaeg got the Tigers rolling with a 9.875 of her own, and Ewing added a solid 9.85 to round out the scoring.

After three rotations LSU held a commanding 148.025-147.025 lead over Arkansas, and the Tigers closed out strong to reach the season-high score.

LSU posted a 49.400 on floor in the final rotation, paced by 9.90s from Hambrick, Wyrick and Gnat. Ewing earned a 9.875 from the leadoff spot, and Finnegan tallied a 9.825 to add to the Tigers’ total. 

“We have a tough SEC stretch coming up, and we can’t look past any single opponent,” Breaux said.

LSU heads to Athens, Georgia next week when the Tigers take on No. 11 Georgia at 3 p.m. CT on Feb. 13 in Stegeman Coliseum.
