BATON ROUGE - The LSU gymnastics squad reached a number one nationwide ranking as the NCAA shifted into its postseason rankings system.
LSU (7-3, 3-2 SEC) failed to top Florida during their meet Friday, but their average scores vaulted them into the top position with a regional qualifier of 197.470. It's the highest regional qualifying score in school history.
LSU also took over the top spots for vault and floor. Junior Rheagan Courville is also the nationwide top all-arounder, senior Sarie Morrison was ranked number one on bars, and junior Jessie Jordan tops the rankings for beam.
At the start of the year the NCAA ranks gymnastics teams off their season average. Beginning this week and continuing to the end of the season teams will be ranked instead by their regional qualifying score.
The gymnastics squad returns to LSU Friday to host Missouri at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the LSU gymnastics website.
