BATON ROUGE - The U.S. Department of Education announced the appointment of LSU and Southern University graduate Kim Hunter-Reed as deputy undersecretary Monday.

Hunter-Reed received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the E.J. Ourso College of Business at LSU. In addition, Reed recieved a Doctor of Philosophy in  Public Policy - focus on Higher Education Policy from the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy from Southern University.

Hunter-Reed replaces Jamienne Studley, who left the department last year, and will work with undersecretary Ted Mitchell on the Obama administration’s higher education priorities.
Mitchell stated that Reed’s responsibilities will include “ a strong focus on higher education policy development and outreach."

Hunter-Reed, a Lake Charles native, was principal at HCM Strategists LLC, a public policy and advocacy consulting firm in Washington. She previously served as chief of staff for the Louisiana Board of Regents and executive vice president of the University of Louisiana System.
