LSU gets first series sweep of season
BATON ROUGE - The LSU baseball team finally got its first series sweep of the young season, with a 7-3 win over Purdue Sunday afternoon.
The win brings the Tigers' record to 14-2, as they get ready for five games in the next six days.
"We struggled a little bit offensively last night but otherwise, for these five games I thought we had an awful lot of great at bats," said head coach Paul Mainieri. "You know I'm really really please at where we are as we get ready for the big week coming up."
Getting the sweep the weekend before SEC play opens was a hurdle crossed mentally for the Tigers players.
"We haven't swept anybody yet this year," said sophomore shortstop Alex Bregman. "And I think we needed to do that going into the SEC play so when we get a team on the ropes on Sunday we can sweep 'em."
The Tigers square off against Nicholls State on Tuesday and Southern on Wednesday.
