LSU DC Chavis gets extension through 2015
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU athletic officials say defensive coordinator John Chavis has received a one-year extension through the 2015 season.
LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says the extension, first reported by The Advocate of Baton Rouge, pays Chavis the same $1.3 million salary he gets right now.
Chavis' previous three-year contract was set to expire at the end of 2014.
Chavis joined Les Miles' staff at LSU in 2009 following 14 seasons as Tennessee's defensive coordinator.
The Tigers struggled defensively earlier this season, allowing more than 560 yards each in losses to Mississippi State and Auburn.
However, the unit has thrived during LSU's current three-game winning streak, giving up only three touchdowns in that span.
During Chavis' previous five seasons, his defense ranked in the top 12 nationally three times.
