GRETNA - Freshman LSU defensive back Rickey Jefferson has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and has been sentenced to two years' probation in connection with his arrest along a Mardi Gras parade route in Metairie last February.

The 18-year-old Jefferson, whose older brother is former LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, Monday entered a plea of resisting arrest.

Rickey Jefferson initially had been charged with felony resisting arrest by force after allegedly attacking a plain-clothes officer who was arresting one of his friends.

First assistant Jefferson Parish prosecutor Steve Wimberly says Rickey Jefferson and two other defendants apologized to the officers, and that the sheriff's department is in "complete agreement" with prosecutors' decision to work out a plea deal.

Les Miles, coach of the 12-ranked Tigers, has yet to comment on the plea agreement.
