BATON ROUGE – LSU officials deemed backpacks and large bags as “heightened security threats” in a statement Wednesday detailing the university’s new stadium bag policy.

LSU cited national and global events as the need for updating its current bag policy for Tiger Stadium and other venues.

The new policy will only allow clear bags “smaller than 12" x 6" x 12 into LSU athletic venues.

The university said one gallon clear plastic bags or small purses about the size of a person’s hands will also be allowed.

Backpacks regardless of size are still banned. Exceptions can be made for customers with medical needs or diaper bags.

All bags will be subject to search and inspection.

“LSU Athletics is dedicated to enhancing fan safety and security measures and the use of clear bags is a recommended best practice throughout the industry,” a university statement said.
