LSU beats UNC Wilmington 2-0, advances to Regional Championship
Freshman Alex Lange struck out 12 in a six-hitter, leading LSU to a 2-0 victory over UNC Wilmington in the Baton Rouge Regional on Saturday night.
LSU (50-10) broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning to move into the championship round of the regional. UNCW (40-17) will take on Tulane in an elimination game Sunday.
Lange (11-0) became the first LSU freshman to have 100 or more strikeouts in a season, posting 110 so far for the Tigers. The Southeastern Conference player of the year walked two in the shutout.
With the game scoreless, Kade Scivicque led off the seventh with a double and advanced to third on Andrew Stevenson's single. Chris Chinea followed with an RBI single off Evan Phillips (2-2).
Jared Foster added a run-scoring groundout in the ninth for LSU.
